My little mark on the world

When I was in elementary school, I first read Stargirl and Love, Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli. I was fascinated right away. I connected with Stargirl and loved her fearlessness to be herself, her wonder for the world, and her abounding kindness. In the sequel, Stargirl leaves behind orange halves throughout the town as a treat for birds and other animals. These oranges come to mark her path. If someone in town saw an orange half on top of a fence, they knew Stargirl had been there.

I write Kimber Was Here to have a record of how I make sense of the world. These essays are my oranges.

The girl behind the oranges

I’m Kimber Young Poon, a teacher, eater, believer, dreamer… and many other ‘ers I’m still learning about. Recently married and recently moved to Austin, Texas, my life has totally changed within the last year and a half. Starting new has provoked many moments of self-discovery, and turning to my notebook and pen has helped me make sense of it all.

I have enjoyed reading and writing since I can remember, but I have commitment issues. I have dozens of half-filled notebooks, hundreds of half-written notes on my Notes app, a handful of blog posts, and scribbled poems on post-it notes on my nightstand. Half of the fun of writing is being read, and I am excited to take the leap to start compiling and sharing my writings here. I usually end up writing about relationships, life, and God.

Thank you for being here :)
