Howdy. We’ve made it to the end of July (okay, so it’s technically August 1st, but what can ya do).
July is hot and loud. July begs to be seen! It’s a little crazy. It’s forcefully independent. July is desperately wringing out every last bit of summer that it can before school, and fall, and holidays, and all that colder weather stuff.
Another thing that is prevalent in July is ~politics~. I know how important politics are, but the inside of me gets all squirmy when I see people endlessly fight on the internet. (I wish everyone could read this post!)
But July, to me, always reminds me of falling in love with Jonny. I first met his parents at a Fourth of July neighborhood breakfast, and in the evening we watched fireworks together at my town’s carnival. We became boyfriend-girlfriend that day :) (CUTE!)
And now we’re living in his parents’ house while they’re in Thailand. We even attended the Fourth of July breakfast this year, just the two of us. Funny how time can change things just like that!

July
The fireworks danced in your eyes
When you decided to declare your love.
We kissed amid the shriekings and the burstings:
Our first Declaration of Independence.
When you decided to declare your love,
We melted the reds and whites and blues together
and made a light purple instead.
We were the only ones wearing purple to the parade:
Our first Declaration of Independence.
Banners and flags desperately loud,
Heat blazing on both sides.
Amid the shriekings and the burstings,
We made a light purple instead.
When you decided to declare your love,
The fireworks danced in your eyes,
Gold flecks against a dark sky.
