Mid-August DID/SAW/HEAR/DRAW
August is all about treasure hunting, love, and the confusion of being a girl.
Hello lovely KWH Readers!
August has been b u s y. Like I have mentioned a bunch of times, we moved!!!
It’s been fun to get a taste of home ownership (although we don’t own the home). So far, the yard is pretty much all dead, we extracted 8 wasp nests… and many neighbors have stopped by to say hello. We are cosplaying the quintessential suburban neighborhood American dream and it’s a cute little life.
Anyway, it’s now the middle of August, which means it’s time to share what I am doing, seeing, hearing, and drawing.
DID:
I did a lot of treasure hunting.
While Jonny’s parents are gone for the next few years, we have taken the opportunity to clear out and reorganize closets with 30 years worth of treasures. We now have a space to fit our bed!! Wahoo!
Some treasures we have found:
An intricate metal hand mirror, comb, and brush set
A Coca-Cola Barbie from the 90’s
Completely unopened vintage dish set
A framed picture of a teddy bear riding a Fararri
An unassuming cute little jar full of… baby teeth
SAW:
I saw my best friend get married! (!!!)
Sarah and I met as little gals as freshmen in college. We have seen each other through ups and downs of different relationships, so it feels extra special that she was able to find her person. Sarah is someone who I look up to because of her dedication to becoming the best version of herself.
At the dinner, her now husband said that all the experiences in their lives had taught them how to love each other.
I thought that was so profound! It takes work to learn how you love and how you receive love. Marriage (and relationships!) are not for the faint of heart — it’s like holding up a huge mirror. You are faced with intimate insecurities, shortcomings, and past wounds that you thought were healed.
I am always struck at weddings how simultaneously CRAZY and COOL marriage is. You just pick a human that you like and hope it works out! It’s so cute! And funny! And a little weird! How magical that humans are still finding other humans they willingly commit to.
HEAR:
I heard that Summer 2024 is the summer of female pop music?
I, like everyone else, have jumped on the Chappell Roan train. Red Wine Supernova is the perfect song for belting in the car. I didn’t think that I’d be screaming “I don’t care that you’re a stoner” over and over this summer, but here we are!
A close contender is Girl, so confusing by Charli xcx. How did she convey so perfectly the CONFUSION of being a girl?
Yeah, I don't know if you like me
Sometimes I think you might hate me
Sometimes I think I might hate you
Maybe you just wanna be me
These lyrics are spot-on representations of girl-girl friendships, especially as a teenager. Girls talk poetically — we say one thing and mean another. Just like Charli says, “it’s so confusing sometimes being a girl.”
DRAW:
My mantra lately:
Let me know what you are doing, seeing, hearing, and drawing!
Thanks for reading,
Kimber was here… and you’re here, too.
Thank you so much for being here and encouraging my writing. The biggest way you can support my work is by sharing my newsletter with someone you think might enjoy it!
I’m so endlessly grateful for all of my subscribers!!!! xxx it’s a joy to connect with you through your comments, replies to my emails, dms, etc. Thanks for being here :)
I love your current mantra, “Think less. Live more.” For those of us who can be too much in our head, it feels good to just live and be in the moment more often!
I love seeing your little treasures and drawings! Sounds like a very full and good August, and like your move is unfolding in goodness and adventure ✨🙏
